The database centers around the familiy of
Graham Lawrence Giegler (son of Lawrence Giegler and Amy Graham)
and his wife
Kathleen Blanche Risch (daughter of Herman Risch and Emma Dean)
farmers near and later retired in
Howell, Livingston Co., MI, USA.
The Family Record database is currently maintained by Frank Giegler.
(address below)
The Giegler family records include
the descendants and collateral families of Johann Carl Friedrich
Giegler and his wife Caroline Friedrike Amelia Kutz.
Other known spellings Giegeler, Gigler, Gegler, Geigler.
The Genealogy Files of Walter Scott contain his original research of
the Giegler Family in the late 30's and early 40's, his continued
research and other papers. He used the information in these files to
compile the 1940 and 1941 editions of the Giegler Family
Record. In 1979 and again in 1991 it was updated by Edith
(Giegler) Long using Walters files and other information.
The database contains information from Walters files as well as
information compiled by his daughter, Marie (Scott) Standifer, on her
research trips to Germany in 1992 and 1994, and research in Germany by
her daughter Elizabeth Standifer in 1985. Also information from the
1982 and 1991 Giegler Family Record by Edith (Giegler) Long,
information from family members and sources on the Internet are included.
Additional information on the descendants of Frank Henry Geigler
(eighth child of Friedrich August Adolph Giegler, the brother of
Johann Carl), provided by the Frank Donald Geigler family is included.
Johann Carl Friedrich Giegler has a half brother and three half
sisters (from his mothers first marriage to Christian Friedrich
Peters). The Peters Family (including the Gates Family) is included.
The parents and probable grand parents of Johann Carl Friedrich
Giegler are known. The information on their families is not complete,
what is known is included.
Four probable uncles of Johann Carl (probable brothers of his father)
are also known, the descendants of these probable uncles are included.
Additional information on the descendants of (Georg) Daniel Friedrich Giegler, (probable uncle of Johann Carl), was provided by the Wolf Family and the Mittge Family.
The parents, two sisters and a brother of Johann Carl Friedrich
Giegler?s wife, Caroline Friedrike Amelia Kutz, are known, as well as
some information on their families. The Kutz Family is included.
Marie Standifer, during her visit to Germany in October 1994, met with
a Giegler family living in Templin, Germany. There may be a
connection to the family of Herbert Giegler and his sister Hannelore (Giegler) Gestindorfer, but it has not yet been verified. The information on this family is included in the Collateral Families Report.
Still little is known about the early Gieglers in Germany.
Unfortunately Official Records may have been destroyed during WWII
however some Church Records did survive -- the search continues.
The Graham family records include
the descendants of James Graham, his wife Sarah Wilson (daughter of
Robert Wilson)
and his brother John Graham, his wife Ellen Kellough and his wife
Ellen Mc Coughrun (daughter of Thomas Mc Augham and Jennie).
John's second wife's maiden name spelled McCaughren on her obituary,
McCangharm on John's obituary.
It's also found spelled McCoughrun, McAugharm, and MacCathery.
The database contains information from the book Decendants of JAMES
and SARAH GRAHAM (Grandma Lockwood) by Edith Long, Roger Hunt,
Nancy Hays Marian Giegler, Frank Giegler and Others, published for the
1995 Graham Reunion and the book The John Graham Family by
Lenore Putman Schram, published for the 1985 Graham Reunion. Also
information from family members and sources on the Internet are included.
Little is known about the parents and siblings of James and John
Graham, it is logical to assume that there were other children in the
family.
Both James and John were born in Ireland, John in County Antrum,
Ireland.
James and his wife Sarah immigrated about 1850
John Graham and Ellen Kellough immigrated in 1858 to West Troy, NY.
Following the death of his first wife, John returned to Ireland and
married Ellen Mc Coughrun in 1871. She immigrated to Oakland Co. MI
in 1871.
It is not known if their father James came to this country or when
their mother Mary immigrated.
It is known that their mother Mary moved, with John and his wife Ellen
Kellough, from Troy, NY to Oakland
Co., MI. in 1870.
The Risch family records include the
descendants of Charles Risch and his wife Lena Siefvert.
Charles, his wife Lena and their sons Herman, Johann and Friederich
immigrated to Howell, MI from Mecklenburg, Germany in 1871. William
McPherson paid for the passage of Charles, his wife and three sons.
In return Charles worked on the McPherson Farm for about seven years.
Charles then purchased farmland in Leroy Twp., Ingham Co., MI where
the Risch family became prominent farmers.
Herman married Emma Dean (daughter of Samuel Dean and Jerusha Young).
The Dean family records include the
descendants of Samuel Dean, son of Amasa Dean and Sarah Placeway, and
his wife Jerusha Young, daughter of Zenith Young and Betsy Jacobs.
A number of Wilcox families, who are descendants of Samuel's sister Sarah Ann (Dean) Wilcox, are also included. (Some of the entries have not yet been documented.)
Samuel's parents originally from VT moved to NY state in the mid
1820's, then came to Livingston Co., MI in the mid 1830's. Amasa
purchased a 'Land Patent' for 77.64 acres in Oceola Twp. in 1887.
The Dean Family has been traced back, through Hiram, William and John
Dean of MA, to Wiliam Diane and his wife Martha Bateman born in the
mid 1650's.
The text in the family records is computer generated from raw data in
the family database.
and has not been edited for sentence structure or grammar.
The database is incomplete and errors do exist.
Complete names including maiden names and spouse's parents and
spouse's siblings are needed.
Also birth, marriage, and death dates and locations as well as
cemetery and location are needed.

There are a number of missing and ambiguous dates in the FAMILY
RECORD. To facilitate search and
updating, an attempt was made to estimate missing and ambiguous dates,
using one or more known dates of related events. These dates are shown as
bef.= before, bet.= between, aft.= after, abt.= about and or =
conflicting information.
The following estimating criteria was used:
BIRTH aft parents marriage, bef parents
divorce, bef mothers death, maximum of 9 months aft fathers death,
minimum of 1 year between siblings, spouses ± 10 yr.
DEATH aft marriage, aft last child born,
aft divorce, bef age 105.
MARRIAGE aft age 15, aft previous
marriage/divorce, bef birth of child.
DIVORCE aft marriage, aft last child's
birth, bef next marriage.
Estimated dates will usually show only a year, bet. 1910 and 1930.
In cases where a month and year or a day, month and year are recorded,
the date is most likely known
but the year is in question, bet 29 Apr 1928 and 1948.
In most cases abt. is used to organize events and does not represent
an actual date.
